Meet Dim, Senior Software Engineer and Cybersecurity Specialist on our development team. Working remotely from Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast (and visits the office in Brisbane occasionally), he’s one of our powerful minds, from solving applications development and cybersecurity problems to offering service support, he’s a multidisciplinary who thrives on positive company culture.
What are the main responsibilities of your position? What’s a typical day like for you at SoftlinkIC?
My main responsibilities include applications development, cybersecurity, and service support. I typically start my day by focusing on support tasks, following up on issues and taking necessary actions. After that, my day usually involves some planning and collaboration through meetings. I aim to dedicate at least half of my day to software development, which is a key part of my role.
When did you join SoftlinkIC and what do you like most about working here?
I joined Softlink IC in September 2024 as part of the acquisition of Aurora Information Technology (AIT). I have been working at AIT for 16 years.
I find Softlink a very inclusive and welcoming environment with respectful, professional but friendly people after we moved across. I have been impressed with the company culture.
The flexibility of working from home is definitely a great aspect of this role while also having the ability to go to the office whenever I need to.
Since joining SoftlinkIC I have had the opportunity to extend my knowledge and skills and find support in a larger team.
What was the last book you read (or listened to)?
The last book I read was A Foreign Wife by Gillian Bouras. It’s a memoir about her life as an Australian woman who moves to Greece after marrying a Greek man. It explores her struggles with adapting to a completely different culture and way of life, and the challenges of being far from home.
What’s one thing about your job that surprises people when you tell them?
One thing that surprises people is how easily we can automate tasks to make their work simpler. Programming isn’t just about writing code and crunching numbers – it’s about understanding how people use the software and designing solutions to streamline their tasks while keeping their information secure.
What is your favorite type of food? (If there’s a list, even better!)
My favorite foods are a mix of cuisines! I love Greek street food, especially pita souvlaki with tzatziki and a Greek salad. Creamy pastas and pizzas like Carbonara, Quattro Formaggi, or Boscaiola are always a hit. I’m also a big fan of Indian butter chicken with rice and garlic naan, and Mongolian lamb with Chinese fried rice.
Which 4 people, alive or dead, would you love to share your favorite food with and why?
I am a family person, so it must be my family. Did you say 40? 🙂
If you could be anyone else for a day, who would that be and why?
A sports champion like Giannis Antetokoumpo (NBA MVP Basketball). He’s a Greek and Nigerian professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA. His size, speed, strength, and country of origin have earned him the nickname the “Greek Freak”. It would be magical to experience that exciting life and have the support of a nation behind you.
What is one place in the world on your bucket list you most want to visit and why?
The Caribbean and Bahamas as I love being near the water and relaxation. There’s something about the ocean that is relaxing.
