Law library apps and knowledge management in focus at ALLA 2018

Softlink headed to Darwin for the 2018 ALLA conference in May. Sarah Thompson manned the exhibition stand and enjoyed the chance to meet with our law library users and partners.

Delegates were keen to explore illumin, our request and knowledge management solution.

“A number of law librarians I spoke with receive and manage a significant number of reference queries. They want to build knowledge bases to help capture the work they’re doing. After playing with illumin at the stand they saw the real-world applications for it. One of the librarians remarked that she had not seen anything like it!”

Mobile apps were another talking point for the law librarians at ALLA 2018.

Softlink provided a Virtual Law Library for delegates to “play” with the LibertyLink library app. Using the app, the librarians could explore Liberty’s mobile self-service options.

“The Virtual Law Library replicated the experience of an attorney. The app helps users manage their own borrowing needs, giving librarians freedom to focus on value-add projects and research,” said Sarah. “Delegates commented it would help service the borrowing needs of their users in other offices.”

On-stand competitions are the fun of conferences, and this year we enticed visitors with a bottle of Mumm. We trust our lucky winner, Randi Taylor from Law Courts of the ACT, has enjoyed!

We hope everyone who attended the ALLA conference enjoyed the experience. See you all in two years
