Softlink IC at IALL 2025: Sharing Ideas and Listening to Law Librarians

Softlink Information Centers (Softlink IC) recently attended the 43rd Annual Course of the International Association of Law Libraries (IALL), held in Houston, Texas, from October 19–23, 2025.

Representing Softlink IC, Matt Coy, Sales and Account Manager, joined around 100 delegates from universities and academic libraries for a week of discussion and discovery. The smaller format of this year’s event made it ideal for focused conversations about the evolving role of legal information management and how technology continues to support that change.

Focused Conversations, Real Insights

Over the conference, there were opportunities for one-on-one conversations and shared learning. Matt noted that many attendees were curious about how Softlink IC’s Liberty Digital and illumin platforms are helping legal librarians simplify processes, save time, and better demonstrate the value of their expertise.

Liberty Digital drew interest for its ability to manage both digital and physical resources in one intuitive system – a particular advantage for law libraries balancing traditional collections with expanding digital archives. Its AI-powered metadata cataloging and federated search features were discussed as ways to improve access and accuracy without adding administrative overhead.

illumin, Softlink IC’s research management system, also resonated with librarians looking for ways to streamline research requests and deliver insights faster. Its customizable tagging and workflow visibility tools stood out for helping libraries manage knowledge efficiently, especially in busy legal teams.

“Events like IALL are a great reminder that technology only matters when it makes a difference to the people using it,” Matt shared. “Discussions I’ve had during this conference give us a chance to really listen - to understand what’s working, what’s changing, and where we can help librarians shine.”

Small Event, Big Takeaways

While the conference was intimate, the insights were valuable. Key topics included the ongoing digital transformation of legal libraries, secure information access, and the continued importance of human expertise in guiding research and knowledge management.

And of course, Alex the Alpaca made his appearance – sparking plenty of smiles (and selfies). Alex once again proved that a touch of fun helps make meaningful connections, even in a more serious setting.
